This blog started out as a spot where I planned to showcase my snare drum collection. However, one can get so wrapped up in the gear that it's easy to forget that snare drums are instruments that should be played, not merely displayed. So ... the snare drum addict is taking a turn in that direction.
One of the best starting points on the worldwide web is Derrick Pope's web site. Derrick is not only a talented drummer, but is also a gifted teacher. The quickest way to access Derrick's lessons is by seeking out his videos on YouTube. Here are two of my favorites that are not only essential lessons in technique, but show Derrick's talent: Moeller Technique and One-Handed Rolls.
In subsequent posts I'll share some of my favorite instructional DVDs that augment the lessons you can find online.
